Chicago Crosswalk
Digital Photo8" x 10"
The hope with my photos is to capture a specific moment that becomes universal for whomever sees it. Sometimes it's in the sweeping gestures, often it's in the smaller details. Even when the results sometimes feel nostalgic, or dreamy, or like memories of a moment that never really happened, the practice of actually taking the photo is to be grounded in the present. The practice is to observe and notice. I have no specific principles that I'm chasing, but the themes tend to present themselves in the moment as such: something so tended to that it's beautiful, something so broken that it's beautiful, a scene that can be broken down to its base elements- some shadows, some light, some blocks of color, and some lines. These singular images hopefully tell much larger stories that the viewer is filling in with all of their own information.
