Natures Landscape - 2025

fabric/textiles

“I imagine a future were collaboration across industries to reduce waste is common place. I envision a tomorrow were communities work together creating a bigger impact. This piece shows this collaboration is possible using materials across industries. It utilizes retired textile samples, thrifted curtains, and deconstructed coffee bean bags. These elements come together to represent the beautiful nature we capture with our cameras. With this piece I hope to highlight that what is viewed as waste to one industry could be treasure to another. “

Elizabeth Herwaldt loves to experiment with different ways of manipulating fabric from layering, to embroidery, to pleats. She studied fashion design at the College of DuPage and is currently studying Social Entrepreneurship at North Central College. She hopes to combine those skills into a business that makes the fashion industry a more inclusive, and sustainable place while still creating unique artistic pieces. She is often inspired by the things around us, like nature, architecture, and of course art. Herwaldt says that the future she wants to see is one of collaboration where we work together to make meaningful change in our world
