Bio
Patricia A. Stephens holds a BA and MA from Northeastern Illinois University and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Fine Art from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Stephens has exhibited across Chicago and the greater Midwest, at galleries and cultural institutions including Northeastern Illinois University, Under the Wire Gallery (Chicago), Chicago Arts District (Pilsen, Chicago), Chicago Alliance of Visual Arts (Evanston), Society of Northern American Goldsmiths (Chicago), Chicago Sculpture International (Chicago), ARC Gallery (Chicago), Bridgeport Art Center (Chicago), Bradley University (Peoria, IL), Zhou B Art Center (Chicago), ARC Gallery (Chicago), among others, and exhibited internationally in Shenyang, China. Stephens is a member of Art Jewelry Forum, Chicago Alliance of Visual Artists, Chicago Sculpture International, Complement Consulting Group (Artist in Residence), National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA), and the Society of North American Goldsmiths.Statement
Working with an emphasis in metals and ceramics, Stephens is interested in exploring how information is realized, interpreted, and shared. Stephens’ work is inspired by transitory states in the environment, such as shadows reflecting off street signs and the urban landscape, including its graffiti, detritus of litter, boxes run over by cars, telephone poles, and the wires attached to them.
