Michelle Kaffko
 
A photographer for over 20 years, Michelle has been exploring grief and family dynamics through photography and mixed media. She lives in Chicago with her four year old son and owns and operates a commercial photo studio in the West Loop.
 
 
I created this piece as a self portrait in 2022, after four years of infertility treatments and IVF. The nursery for an incoming newborn should be a joyous space, and although there was and still is so much joy in this space in my home where my son sleeps, there also exists the shadow of grief, loss, and fatigue of the process to bring him into the world.
