We exist in an age of non-stop hyperactivity. Overloaded by information and saturated with technology, the separation between work-time and leisure-time has dissolved into a blur where neither exists on its own. This extends even into our nights, the most private part of our lives, during which our bodies are meant to sleep, to escape the chaos of our lives, and to recharge in preparation for the next day’s activities. Instead, our nights are broken up by nearby noise and light pollution, and the constant draw of technological updates via television, laptops and smartphones. Sleepless captures my night’s sleep in the various spaces I inhabit at night. The result, captured over a number of years, is a visual diary of my night’s sleep in the various homes, hotel rooms, friends’ guestrooms, and Airbnb apartments that I have slept in over the past decade.
